Train from Naples to Verona

We had booked only the first 3 weeks of our trip in order to keep the flexibility of where we wanted to go after Southern Italy. Next stop: Verona! Our new friend Danielle, who we met in Sicily, just moved to Verona two days before and had emailed us about what a wonderful place it was. We had also heard from some fellow travelers that the lakes in northern Italy were incredible. The original plan was to travel to Portofino, Monaco and then into Nice, France for a little beach time. You know what they say about all travel and no play...

This would be our longest train ride, an all day adventure from southern Italy to northern Italy. Unlike plane travel, you have plenty of room in your seat, can walk down to the restaurant car when you want, or just watch the countryside go by. We really wish there was more train travel in the U.S., it really makes it easy.

As you can tell from the photo, we had way too much luggage with us, since we really did not know what the weather was going to be like, and really had no idea where we were going next. This part of the journy is on the Circumvesuviana train to Naples, so if you have luggage you stay with it in the open space.

The rest of the trip would be on the super fast and comfortable train, the Eurostar. We would be passing through Rome and Florence, and would be strongly tempted to get off at either stop since we had such a great time in both places last year. These two cities are not to be missed, so if you have never been you need to make it happen somehow. And let us know when you are going, we just might meet you there! We fought through the temptation to stop, and off we went through the lush Tuscan countryside.

Becky had a chance to finish some postcards, and we would soon be pulling into the Verona train station!
